D-Resort Göcek: the boutique Turkish resort built for late-sun family breaks

In partnership with D-Resort Göcek

October half term is the last real chance of the year for a beach holiday that doesn't involve a long-haul flight. Turkey's southwest coast is one of the few places within four hours of the UK where the sea is still warm enough for children to swim, and D-Resort Göcek, a boutique five-star on the edge of the sailing village of Göcek, is among the best-placed hotels on that stretch for families.

The setting

Göcek sits at the head of a wide bay scattered with small islands and backed by pine-covered mountains. The area has been a protected zone since 1988, which explains why it looks the way it does: no high-rise strips, plenty of greenery and a village that is still a village. The town centre and D-Marin, the marina at the heart of the local yachting scene, are a five-minute walk from the resort.

The resort itself is low-rise and spread through landscaped gardens, with just over 100 rooms and suites. It has a private white-sand beach in its own cove, a 1,000 sq m lawn by the water known as D-Green, and an outdoor pool with a separate, dedicated children's pool alongside it.

The rooms

For families, the Deluxe Rooms are the ones to book. At 32 sq m they sleep up to three adults, or two adults and a child, with one extra bed available at a supplement. More usefully, they can be interconnected, so parents and children each get their own room, door and bathroom while staying next to one another.

Standard Rooms (27 sq m) suit couples travelling with a baby, taking two adults and one child aged 0–3. Across the board, children aged 0–6 stay free, which makes a material difference to the final bill for families with toddlers and pre-schoolers.

For the children

The welcome is thoughtful without being overdone. Younger guests arrive to colouring books and crayons, along with cookies made by the resort's kitchen using locally grown almonds and sesame, a small nod to the flavours of the region.

Olives, the all-day restaurant on a shaded terrace, has a dedicated children's menu of child-friendly dishes and desserts, and D'Breeze, the beach restaurant, offers a children's selection during its summer season. Free bicycles are available for older children and parents to explore the village.

For parents

This is where the resort stands apart from a typical family hotel. D-Spa offers Asian- and Western-inspired treatments, and D-Gym has Technogym equipment alongside Pilates, Reformer Pilates and aerial yoga. The best way to see the coast is aboard Sundowner, the resort's own custom-built speedboat, which can be chartered for a few hours to explore the bays and islands.

Getting there

Dalaman International Airport is 25km away, just under thirty minutes by car. Families who book their transfer through the resort can request baby and child car seats in advance, so there is no need to bring your own.

The details

Over October half term, Standard Rooms are priced from EUR 345 to EUR 400 per room, per night, and Deluxe Rooms from EUR 455 to EUR 550 per room, per night, depending on dates and availability. Children aged 0–6 stay free.
