Luxury Family Resort Review: Club Med Magna Marbella

High above Marbella, framed by the Sierra Blanca mountains and with far-reaching views stretching across the Mediterranean towards Morocco, Club Med Magna Marbella offers an elevated take on the traditional family all-inclusive. Set just ten minutes from Marbella Old Town, the resort enjoys peaceful seclusion while remaining close to the glamour, boutiques and cobbled charm of Marbella itself. Stylish without feeling intimidating, polished yet friendly for families, it manages to strike the elusive balance between luxury hospitality and family practicality. And for parents travelling with children, that combination is what we’re all looking for.

From the moment we landed in Malaga, the Club Med experience felt seamless. Transfers arranged by the team at Club Med Marbella were swift, car seats were immediately available, and despite a later evening arrival, the resort had thoughtfully ensured food and drinks were still waiting for us in the restaurant. It is exactly the kind of detail that tired parents appreciate after travelling.

The arrival set the tone for the stay. We were met in the vast reception space; sleek, expansive, but warm and flooded with soft lighting. Beyond the reception you are met with panoramic views that span across Marbella below and the infinity pool which looks enticing under the glowy evening lights. Check-in was swift and the staff gave us an overview of where everything was before we requested a more thorough tour in the morning.

Spacious family suites

Family rooms are often the weak point of luxury resorts - but not Magna Marbella. Here, all ages are looked after. Our interconnecting rooms were exceptionally spacious, with a layout that allowed everyone to properly spread out rather than simply sleep side by side. Travelling with three children doesn’t come without it’s challenges, and any extra space is welcome wherever we go. Even without a sea-facing room, the views were striking, overlooking Marbella’s rooftops with glimpses of the coastline and Morocco visible in the distance. The interiors are understated, softened with striking blue furnishings and accents that subtly reflect the Mediterranean setting. Generous dressing areas, large balconies and large living spaces gave the rooms a luxurious feel. Our bathroom felt well thought out, complete with oversized double vanities (a must for any couple), rainfall showers and premium products that added a spa-like touch.Although a full night’s sleep can be a challenge with little ones, our bed was exceptionally comfortable and generously sized. The children’s setup was compromised of twin beds alongside a substantial sofa bed – rather than a camp bed afterthought squeezed into the room.

Resort living designed around families

What positions Club Med Magna Marbella above many luxury family resorts is how intuitively it caters to multi-generational travel. The kids’ areas feel thoughtfully integrated into the resort rather than separated from it. The playground and splash park are particularly well designed for younger kids, with shaded seating nearby allowing you to remain close while still relaxing with something suitably alcoholic in hand.

The main lagoon-style pool is another standout feature. Elegant and expansive, its gently sloping entry makes it ideal for families with younger ones, allowing pre-walkers to paddle safely alongside adults lounging on submerged sunbeds in the sun.

Circus activities at Magna Marbella

Set within its own dedicated space, families can learn trapeze, tightrope walking and juggling under the guidance of expert instructors. What could easily feel gimmicky instead becomes one of the most memorable parts of the experience. Watching our children build confidence while enjoying a real-life screen-free activity created the kind of memories we won’t forget in a hurry.

Sports are woven seamlessly throughout the daily programmes. Tennis and padel courts sit amongst the gardens, with professional coaching available for both adults and kids with pre-booking, while the golf course adds another offering to Magna’s activities to appeal to all ages.

Dining with a more refined edge

The dining experience feels more considered than the typical all-inclusive model. The main restaurant offers extensive international buffets with live cooking stations, abundant seafood, fresh Mediterranean dishes and excellent options for children without compromising on quality.

For quieter evenings, the gourmet dining restaurant provides a more refined atmosphere, ideal for lingering dinners once children are happily settled into the evening entertainment programme.

Breakfast occasionally felt slightly less orchestrated than other parts of the resort, particularly during peak times, where the open seating concept created a little morning bustle. However, attentive staff and the sheer quality and variety of the offering quickly compensated.

Throughout the day, drinks and snacks remained always available, adding to the ease that made our holiday so enjoyable.

Entertainment on tap

After dark is where the polish of many family resorts tends to fade but Club Med Magna Marbella managed to avoid that. From live music and discos to surprisingly entertaining performances and relaxed quizzes, the atmosphere remained sophisticated, social and genuinely enjoyable for us adults as well as the children. Meanwhile, the kids’ clubs were well run, with warm, experienced staff creating a relaxed environment where kids are constantly engaged without it feeling overly regimented - just enough to break up our day or give the children a break from the sunshine.

The result is a family resort where we could actually switch off, confident that our kids were not only entertained, but genuinely happy while we also got some much-needed quality time together.

For families seeking a luxury escape that combines thoughtful design, high-end facilities and a family-first atmosphere without sacrificing sophistication, Club Med Magna Marbella offers a dynamic alternative to the more traditional Marbella resort holiday.
